Whooray for a new blog!

Wednesday, December 28, 2016
Hello there! I'm Mara, a first year teacher living and working in Atlanta, GA. I began my teaching adventure in a Kindergarten classroom immediately following my undergraduate graduation in December 2015. I taught for four months of the 2015-2016 school year and am currently in the middle of my first full year teaching.

When I chose education as my major in college it was for one main reason. I love the kids! I know, many teachers will tell you the same thing, but it's true. Many teachers go into education because they love kids. While learning from different teachers I noticed the classrooms that I was in that were filled with love for the students were the happiest. Students were successful because their teacher pushed to set them up for success. I watched teachers push their students meet challenges, think outside the box, and grow as learners. Throughout my undergraduate internships in different schools, classroom settings, and grade levels one thing was consistent. When things click for a child and their face shows it, nothing else matters. I watched all students I worked with learn something new while I was also learning from them.

This blog will be for all those unique and wonderful moments that I watched things click for my students. I want to share what's special about my classroom and how I bring learning into my students lives. Not only how I teach them, but also how each of them teach me. My Kindergarten class has 22 bright smiley students. But if we are all learning from each other then there are 23 bright smiley teachers.

In naming my blog I found myself getting caught up in how the name flowed, rhymed, or the cuteness factor that comes with an elementary teaching blog. I reached out to a friend and she suggested "Whoo's Teaching Whoo?" (she's a real winner). I love the idea of teachers learning from their students. I know that everyday I teach my students something new I have also learned something new from them. So now, whoo's teaching whoo? I am so excited to join the blogging world and share my ideas, experiences, and love for Kindergarten with you!

Welcome to my Kinder adventure!
